This is our favorite special occasion go to place.  The service as usual, is impeccable.  The ambiance is dark and romantic.  We ordered the crab cakes and beef wrapped in filo dough appetizers.   Both came with creative sauces and were beautifully presented.  Delicious!  I had the ribeye steak with a reduction sauce and mushroom.  It was cooked just right!  So glad I ordered it.  My husband had the surf and turf.  He really enjoyed his dinner.  The fillet was buttery soft and melts in the mouth.  We were too full for dessert.   The owner brought us a  complimentary warm chocolate syrup shot to end our lovely meal with.  Just lovely!  We will definitely be back.

My wife and I had the pleasure of dining here recently prior to attending a performance at Music Circus. This is a hidden gem, meaning that if you didn't know exactly where Moxie's is you would probably drive right past it. It's not large, and there's no bright lights outside. But once inside the dimly lit room, it's the perfect place for a romantic evening with that perfect someone, or for a small family or friends get together. Whatever you do, don't go by the printed menu! The owner will explain the daily specials, which are usually 8-10 items ranging from seafood to veal to beef, etc. My wife had the Chilean Sea-bass in a lobster bisque sauce and I had the King Salmon fillet, sesame crusted with a light teriyaki sauce. The entrees along with the sides, were Outstanding, and my wife doesn't eat FISH! Service is excellent and the owner not only greeted us upon arrival, but also made a point to say goodbye. Along with the play we saw, this was a perfect evening!

Adam and his staff are the best in town. The food was delicious, the service excellent, and the wine pour was like nothing we've seen in town for a long time. I don't know if you can find a more responsive service staff in Sacramento. Thank you for a lovely evening. Mike and Sandy D.with dear friends.

Wow-- Moxie is THE BEST restaurant in Sacramento. The service is excellent. They're incredibly friendly and fun, and they are so attentive and helpful. The food is truly out of this world, the restaurant isn't too loud but also has a fun energy, and I cannot recommend this place higher. I have been to several Michelin Star restaurants around the world, and this was one of my favorite meals of my life. We look forward to going back!

    4 1/2 stars.

My friend recommended Moxie a few weeks ago and we decided to give it a try after watching a show @ Music Circus on the same street.

It was Father's Day weekend and we were not sure if we can get a table without reservation. Thankfully the owner kindly took us in around 5:15pm Saturday.

We had a delicious meal! Everything we ordered was above my expectation mainly because I was under the impression this is a hole in a wall place, regardless the 3 dollar sign per Yelp :) The crab cakes tasted really fresh. I enjoyed my medium filet mignon with 2 prawns, hubby enjoyed his calf liver, and the creme brulee was satisfying at the end.

Service was great and attentive. Looking forward to coming back with other foodie friends!

Knocked off half a star because I was disappointed a higher end place like this still uses styrofoam for the leftovers :/ Hope they get rid of it soon. Bring your own to-go containers for the time being please.

Moxie is one of the most romantic, not stiff & formal, and hidden dining experiences of Sacramento that sets the benchmark. I used Yelp and searched for Romantic Dinners in Sacramento.   Moxie was listed.
It is not downtown but close enough around duplexes and apartments.  They do not have a parking lot, so we had to park on the street.  The restaurant size is not wide but longer, such as an apartment rental size.
Once you enter, it is dark with candlelight.  It has old recorded romantic music playing but not too loud that you can't hear your partner.  Old b&w photos fill the wall giving you a sense this place is run and owned by those that have a history
I was greeted by a romantic accent host, which i later learned was the owner.    He and the servers were dressed all black (business casual).   Again, adding to the candlelight focus on your partner.    The service is the best.  Service is not formal stuffy but instead serves to help you relax and smile.   Hence expect some comedy to make you smile.
The menu....I believe it was intended almost comical as it is limited compared to when they start revealing the specials.  The menu given is one page long.  They have a motto if it is in the building or close by, they will cook for you (comical service).   After the menu, the host said they would return with the specials.  After what appeared to be ten specials, my mouth was watering as it was much better than the menu.
Tip:  due to being a smaller restaurant by design, I highly recommend reservations.  This is not a place to eat quickly and leave.  This is a place for a romantic dining experience to enjoy the love of your life.
